(If you can't see the track zoom in on map) Six of us set off from River Bend Park public boat ramp to paddle the Loxahatchie River which two years ago weather had prevented us from completing. This is a great kayak trip. It includes two small dams which can be portaged around, or as we chose to do, gone over. You will travel through diverse ecosystems ranging from a tight sometimes choked with downfalls creek to a wide river. At the halfway point we stopped at Trapper Nelson's, as do most people. There we ate lunch, which we had bought with us as there are no food services at this location. Our kayaks varied from 9 ft up to a 13.5 tandem which got through better than expected. We all arrived safe, if not all dry, at our destination of the Jonathan Dickinson State Park boat ramp. I took a short trip up Kitching Creek to find a Terrache which added a half mile to the trip. Highly recommended paddle. We had our own, but kayaks and canoes can be rented in both JDSP and Riverbend Park.
